Most Improved Juniors
On the 12th December the awards for the most improved junior boy and junior girl. These awards are not only for being most improved but for being plesant and all round good people round the club.
The most improved boy was Michael Stapleton, who has not only improved his tennis vastly in the past year but he has appeared to most, if not all, the saturday morning sessions no matter what the weather! He has also been competing in the junior winter league where he has been having success as well.
The most improved girl was Jordan Christmas, the first time she picked up a racquet was at the annual Play Tennis day where she accompanied her sister, Lauren, to the club for the first time. Since that day she has been down the club every single week and competing in the winter league. Her willing to play has achieved a massive standard jump and everyone hopes that she keeps on improving.
Both juniors are deserved winners of this award and they are both a credit to the club. I wish both players the best of luck in the future.
Knock Out Cup Report
On the 16th September, Dunstable competed in the Knock Out Cup Final. Dunstable have competed in the final for the last three years in a row now and were hoping to win two out of the three. The only difference was that the opponents were different. In the last two years we have competed against Vauxhall in the final, but this year we defeated Vauxhall in an earlier round. This year we had to face Leighton Buzzard.
The first three rubbers to go on court were the mens singles, ladies singles and ladies doubles. Dunstable took a 1-0 lead when Daniel Strange defeated Leighton's Tavis Prewitt in a quick and unusual three set match. The score was 6-1, 2-6, 6-0.
Unfortunately the next match to come off was the ladies doubles which we lost in two close sets. The Dunstable competitors were Jill Osleger and Jessica Riddy. So this made the score 1-1.
The next match to come off gave Dunstable a 2-1 lead when Chris Winslett and Miguel Moitas quite comfortably won in straight sets.
The following match to come off was the mixed doubles where Nick Boys and Stacey Strange comfortably confirmed our victory.
Why all these matches were going on Anna Magee was still battling out in the ladies singles which lasted nearly three hours. Unfortunately Anna eventually lost out 6-4 in the third to Lauren Crawley.
Congratulations goes to Nick Boys and his team for winning the cup again after a years gap!
